Control Measures Crew hold on to boat when taking the boat on the slipway and cox gives a warning about the water covered drop.

Control Measures Crew enter the boat one at a time under cox instructions, only one person to move at a time in the boat.

Hazard Boat overturning or becoming swamped

Control Measures A decision will be taken before launching not to take the boat out in adverse sea conditions.

Hazard Boat sinking or capsizing

Control Measures Cox and Rowers will inspect the boat and ensure that the boat bung is put in before going to sea.  

Sea conditions will be monitored throughout the row and the boat brought back to shore if necessary.

A stern line will be aboard the boat. 2 Bailers will on board.  

The boat will carry a charged VHF radio for raising help from RNLI at Invergordon or a passing vessel.  

Lifejackets will be always worn by all crew.

The boat will carry a dry bag containing a throwing line, first aid kit, red electronic distress flare, safety knife, a drogue,

5 space blankets.

Control Measures Rowing will take place in daylight hours and when visibility is good. Cox is lookout.

Hazard Man Overboard 

Who Might be Harmed Rowers and Cox 

Control Measures Cox will make a ‘Mayday’ call on channel 16 VHF.

The throw line will be used to bring the person to the boat, and the cox will co-ordinate a rescue into the boat.

If this is not possible the person will be kept with the boat until help arrives. 

The boat will always carry a dry bag containing a throwing line, first aid kit, red electronic distress flare,

safety knife, a drogue, 5 space blankets.
